Description
Venuste Niyongabo is a Burundian athlete specialising in long and middle distance running, who became the first and still only Olympic champion in Burundi's history at the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 when he won the gold medal in the 5,000 metres event.
Since 2009, Venuste has been an active member of the Champions for Peace club and is the patron of the Great Lakes Friendship Games of Africa. Venuste Niyongabo founded his Foundation, the "Venuste Niyongabo Foundation" which is part of the PeaceMaker Project Peace and Sport.
